***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

I'm a bit late in joining the club but I just received a 4890K from Overclockers with a Gigabyte UD3H-BK. Couldn't wait for Skylake any longer, and the improvements don't seem that great anyway. I will probably get 10nm Cannonlake in 2017 with the free Gigabyte motherboard upgrade.:p

Coming from an i5 750 will be interesting to see improvements frame per second in games, and will soon get a 980ti so definitely needed a CPU upgrade.

Currently running mine at 4.6Ghz with 1.165v. Tested for an hour with Asus Realbench. That's the lowest voltage i could get for 4.6Ghz, 1.160 would BSOD 30 seconds into the stress test.

Can anyone check these temps they seem a bit high? This is a new build

and also is it bad if the 12v is running a bit over?

That 12v rail is fine. The temps will depend on the cooler, which cooler are you using?

These are my idle temps:

Make sure that you update to the latest bios for your motherboard. Early ones overvolt the cpu a bit too much leading to higher temps at load. Also, what program where you running at the time to test cpu load temps etc?

Mine still put 1.3v through at stock speeds even with the updated bios. Manualy managed to clock mine to 4.4 and 1.18v now

Im on an older Z87 board, iirc the beta bios ver 1504 for 4790k support overvolted the cpu a bit much, cant remember how high though as i no longer have that cpu. Updating to ver 1505 lowered it a fair bit.

I forgot to say that those temps are under load (73c Max on GTA 5 1920x1080 most settings very high MSAAx2 + Nvidia TXAA)

I used the pre-applied thermal compound that came with the arctic 7, does anyone know what type of compound that is and if the MX4 compound I have would be better?

also I think this CPU has that turbo thing enabled which auto-clocks to 4.4 GHz is there a way to disable this?

IDLE temps are around 30c my room temp is 23c and the HSF physical temp is 25c
