***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Hmm, I'm getting similar temps with a Fractal S36 (360mm AIO). I'm wondering if it's shoddy TIM between the die and the heat spreader.

Maybe I'll try re-applying paste and re-seating the heatsink.

Doubt its your cooler mate, theese are just hot running chips. In some situations, several hundred quids worth of custom watercooling doesn't cool any better than a 30 quid air heat sink. Its just down to the use of too thick a layer of poor quality Tim between the die and ihs instead of solder.

Yep, I've owned two 4790k's and a 4770k. All ran pretty similar. Ivybridge wasn't just as bad, the addition of a strip of vrm's on haswell only made things hotter. Anything that uses AVX instructions causes temps to soar, moreso if using adaptive/offset voltage as these add.1v onto what you've set.

I've been really enjoying my golden lottery chip for the past 6 months now at 4.8 Ghz 1.230v. All on air cooling, with very impressive tempratures that would make water cooling enthousiasts envy my chip lol. I was a lucky *******, but somehow I've been thinking of the 5960x, what is general consensus on it compared to 4790k? And would I be able to demand a little higher price if I were to sell my current chip considering how incredibly lucky I was with it.

In general what sort of max temps are you guys getting with your oc? I've yet to have a proper play with overclocking mine. I've also heard that batch L4 is better than the L3? I've got an L3 :(

The new Devils Canyon ones run a lot cooler.

Just decided to dabble with Overclocking.

Currently at 4.6ghz on 1.22v at the moment slowly lowering it to see how low it can go. Then I will go the other way. Did a quick 4.7 and it failed on 1.24v after a crash in Windows so probably need a bit more but should do 4.8 okay.

At the moment Max 74c stress test and around 55c in games I've been playing.

Geez just seen them at £275 on OCUK. Got mine for £215 Retail version few months ago with free game from a four letter competitor.

I've currently got mine at 4.6 on 1.265. Max is 70c in stress test. Doesn't seem to be the best clocker.

I know, it's mad. I got mine off the MM for £175.
