***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

CineBench @4.9Ghz (1.35v fixed - altho cpu-z showing 1.36v).

Have no idea if it is stable at anything else as was just a quick mess around.

Attempted 5Ghz all the way up to 1.4v and although I could boot in to Windows it was crashing as soon as any moderate load was put on cpu. Perhaps could go slightly higher voltage and mess around with other settings but I am likely to settle for a 24/7 4.7ish so not too bad.

Still tempted to de-lid, but also terrified. :D

RealBench results @4.8Ghz (I think, forgot to take screenie lol)

Scrub that, noticed date of results there so really not sure what clocks those results were from.

hey guys

got this as part of a new setup and finding temps are all over the place got up to 95c

ive got a h60 but no push pull - anything worth changing in EFI?

ive not made any changes since installation

Running some tests on RealBench (will post screenies in a bit) and notice my image editing score is a bit lower than some at lower clocks. Would this be down to my 2133mhz RAM versus their 2400mhz as well as potentially RAM timings?

It's not a million miles away tbh, but I'd like to know everything was working as it should.

Mine runs pretty warm dude with a Dark Pro 3.

I noticed that it was running pretty crazy volts from stock, my motherboard seemed to up them voltage big style when I selected the XMP memory profile.

Worth checking out. Not running mine overclocked at all as 4ghz and 4.4 turbo is more than enough for me playing games. In BF4 it doesn't go over mid 60's, when browsing the internet etc its high 30's, but that's with the fan profile set pretty quiet. When using something like prime and putting all cores under 100% it peaks at 80c. I have yet to see it go over 80.

They are pretty warm, but I bet in the winter my idle will come down a touch as its damn hot in my room. They do seem hotter than the old Sandy's of old though!

i have disabled turbo for the time being but temps still reach 85c hrm...

Full spec is
Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Corsair H60
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
8GB of your standard gaming ram
750w PSU
7950

Voltage is set to Auto in EFI however so perhaps setting this to a fixed voltage should help?

Onboard is very clear - i am no audio expert but its better than my Xonar DG i had previously

Listening to some linkin park via my razer headset/speakers and everything sounds crystal clear not heard any hissing (evening hearing certain tones that i couldn't before)

very impressed :)

Guys, just a quick question. I just finished hooking up most of my rig up but still waiting on the SSD so cannot install o/s to overclock and bench.

Anyway, just booted into bios to check rig works (it does :)). Just wondering how do you check what the default volts are for stock i7-4790k. All I did was load the optimised defaults. Just wondering so I know what my starting point is for when I overclock.

Is it simply looking at what the current volts the bios (Asus Rampage VII Hero motherboard) is showing. Also what are good idle temps for a non overclocked cpu. Using a H105 here.

Thanks

whats your 24/7 clocks five?

Just running @stock pretty much at the moment. Not getting a great deal of time to fiddle with it or game at the moment, but will probably settle for 4.6, 4.7ish I think.

Got it to pass CineBench @4.9, but it froze and BSOD during 2nd part of Asus RealBench so nowhere near stable at 4.9 as yet.

Will update BIOS to 1505 and see if that makes any difference regarding voltages etc.
