***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Bit of a mixed bag tbh, 4.7/8 seems to be the ballpark figure. I'm on my second chip but no oc'ing yet. Will be doing so this week.

Doesn't sound too bad if its at reasonable volts.

Are there any bad batches or is it a case of silicon lottery with these new chips?

I missed the last 4770K chip but had an option to swap my old 26K for the new chip. So I thought why not :)

Just deciding if its worth swapping out my 3770K. I guarantee I will need a new block!

Very much silicon lottery, as for comparisons to 3770k, its not an awful lot faster as I've owned both. Waterblock should still be grand as 1150 has the same mounting holes as 1155.

Good to know my block is still good to go.

I'm sure when the kit lands on my desk I will get the urge :D and then regret it when the blue stuff goes everywhere!

Cheers for that mate :)

Sorry for the noob question but if I get a Z97 board, are DC CPUs the last ones that will support this chipset?

Thanks Wazza. Those are going to be of a muchness aren't they? x99 is the bigger change right with the 6 cores etc?

Turns out it wasn't really bf4 being a pain.

My previously stable settings had simply become very unstable.

Whereas could get 4.8 just over 1.3v, or my chosen settings of 4.75 with around 1.27 suddenly require more volts...

Edit: found similar thing with 2 previous 3770k. Initially ran at x level, but after a week or two jumped to y level, where it typically stayed.

At least, hope doesn't get any worse. Tried not pushing too hard or too high.

Hope Broadwell is better all round...

I don't get why people get particularly bothered over people sending stuff back. Its a right as a consumer to be able to do so (at least for now).

The only exception would be when people take the ****, just to "test" something or the likes. Which will inevitably result in us loosing that right, or it being reduced in some capacity.

Not talking Overclockers specifically here but if people are sending CPUs back because they don't overclock well then someone will end up with his "binned" chip, either by the retailer losing money through an open box sale or it just going back in another box.

Who would be happy knowing they'd bought a supposedly new CPU that wasn't a proper part of the lottery?

On top of that, everyone's prices increase due to the retailer having to deal with it all.

Not sure how many legitimate reasons anyone could have for returning a working CPU (at advetised clocks)? Do your research and read the benches. If benches don't exist, see if anyone on a forum can help you. Don't just buy a CPU and expect to be able to return it if you don't like it.

Yes the rights exist but there are stories of e-tailers banning customers from ordering due to how much stuff they send back.
