***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

I read through a bit of the thread where some of the posters were saying that if you can get one of the L4 batch it's the one to go for, OCUK were very helpful, Damo one of the sales team hand picked me one of the L4 versions so thanks to him for doing that.

You should be able to get a L4 by now most of the early stock should have been sold the one that I have is a L42 still no guarantee you will get a good clocker.

So wait, the 3.3>3.6 Ghz 5820K beating the 4.0>4.4Ghz 4790K has put you off?

:eek::eek::confused:

Run that 5820K overclocked and it creams the 4790K. Isn't this website called Overclockers? Just checking !?

The performance of the core is most important. I mostly game on my i7, few games use 4 cores, mostly 2.
So if my 2600k at 4.4Ghz is mostly the same as a 5820k at 4.4Ghz (if i'm lucky to reach that speed) what's the point?
Also, i sometimes do blu-ray conversion, which takes around 15-20mins on the 2600k (~10Gb MKV,H.264)...but i'm presuming the quicksync feature helps a lot. Without the onboard GPU, the 5820k would probably be a lot slower in that task.
The 4790k seems the best performer and had i not got the 2600k, i'd probably go for that.

Just joined the club today chaps little tinkering I've got a stable 4.7ghz @1.302v with uncore @4.6ghz memory- 1866 xmp. Cinebench r15 it scored 946 so not bad and still some headroom.

Ok I've having a play before I go to bed:

4.793ghz 102 x 47 @1.35v passed 15m asus realbench, max temp 82 deg c and cinebench r15 963

4.9ghz 100 x 49 @1.35v failed realbench but scored 979 on cinebench.

No matter what I tried it wouldn't boot with a 48x multi hence the 102 bclk.
Going to run it at 4.7ghz that's a good stable frequency and good temps too.

At 49core 49cache you should be able to get over 1000 on cinebench.

Just got mine. Not overclocked properly yet just got it stable at 4.2ghz and 1.060v.

Temps are idle at about 28c-30c at the moment and prime95 takes it up to about 58c-60c. Might just leave it there for a bit as its crazy how quick this thing is.

Not really worth it tbh, particularly when you add in the cost of a new mobo. Your 4.8 2700k is roughly equivalent to a 4.5 4790k.

Dont bother with your cpu, i went from a 2500k @4.6 to a 4690k @4.7 recently. Tbh not really that much difference. Im looking at grabbing a 4790k shortly to get some render times down but know in game performance is going to be the same

Quick question guys. Currently have a 2700K clocked at 4.8Ghz, would the 4790K be a decent upgrade? Having a bit of an upgrade itch...

Will be a Total WASTE! _ (that 2700k is a diamond)!
if i were you i'd wait for next gen.
wait till some leasons are learned from the X99 and from the DDR4.

what you see today (the 5xxx), is kinda... pilot.
just wait!
no one expected the Haswell-E to do so great! _ (though its still ... kinda like pilot).
just let them fix, update, upgrade, align and Polish\FiNiSH the Arc.

Hi folks :)

So i finally finished my WC...

The results are incredible...
4790k + Wcooling + Prime 95_v28.5 = 55C

Before with NH-D15(delid+full speed) it was more likely ~80C

Soon I will test 4.8g...

I know idle temps are not the most important thing, could a few people just do us a quick favour. What does your 4790K idles at ?

Mine are as follows

Core #0 30
Core #1 27
Core #2 27
Core #3 30

Do those seem pretty normal for this CPU.
