Intel i7-8700K Worth upgrading If I buy GTX 4090 ?
I game at 4K max settings with all my games and as it stands with 3080 I have all the games I currently play run nice and smooth , from looking online it doent seem like you get much of FPS boost if I move up to the current top gen CPU , maybe 5 FPS more so my question is with GTX 4090 should I upgrade my CPU and move up to DD5 ram ?

I would think the improvement to lows would be quite substantial. It’s tough to say before the reviews, but given the 4090 looks like quite a big jump I would expect your 8700k to be quite underpowered, potentially even at higher resolutions.

it depends on the games you play. some games can be massive jumps. a lot of reviewers benchmarks are often games that dont really test cpus or games many dont even play.

pubg for eg going to say a 12700k you might get 50 fps more. from your old cpu. cod mw probably 20 - 30 fps. really is down to what games you going to play. also the lows can be massive difference.

I`ve been looking at the same thing, for me it`s not worth the cost of upgrading to a new platform for such little gains but only you can make that decision for yourself but as you`re fine now and not CPU bound and already moving up to the 4090 then you`re still going to be fine.
I`m waiting to see what the 7000 series x3D is like and maybe move over to RDNA3 Navi 31 at the same time.

I did when I got an rtx 3080 and it did relieve bottlenecks in certain games.

I did it as a whole system upgrade as well. You'll get PCI-E 4 for GPU and NVME. Resizeable BAR if your current board doesn't support it.
