1 x No Operating System £20

What, £20 for no OS? :p

Personally would custom build, something along the lines of Dooms with i5 3570k instead of i7, Samsung PRO instead of that SSD.

spend a grand and dont get a i7, i dont think so, with more games now supporting i7 architecture if would be daft to go i5

gave this a edit for a bit of more info. just adding more info

there's 100's more, for me the i5 for most new games wont cut it, unless mid ranged is all you want, high end now it has to be i7 paired with a good card

Make a thread in PC games listing them all then as it would be interesting for those who wish to see your reason for i7 over i5.

Wouldn't be classed as spam in that case :)

Still stick by the i5 > i7 for gaming purposes, paying an extra £100 of so for the i7 when most games won't take advantage of HT is money wasted when you can improve another item or keep the £100.

Id actually be interested to see a list of those. How you find out if they use HT is not doesn't sound easy.

I'd imagine only available through reviews as the games don't seem to say it (as he mentioned the Metro game optimum is i7 but nothing mentions HT, so presumably they're just showing it for the higher clock rather than supporting hyper threading, not sure though)

I'm still under the impression very little games support HT.

You will almost always save money/get a better spec for your money if you build yourself.

The advantage of a pre-built is that you don't get any DOA components (it's pre-tested), saving you the hassle of taking a rig apart again if you get a dodgy part. You also get it built by someone who does several of these a day, so it's put together well and usually with neater cable management than the casual builder.

You also get a warranty on the completed unit, so if there's an issue you just send the whole machine back and ask OC to fix it... you don't have to spend hours narrowing down which component has the problem. This on it's own can save you hours if you get a problem. And finally there's the conveniences of not having to build it yourself - some of us enjoy it, but others just want to get it and turn it on.

The advantage of building it yourself is full control over every component (not so much an advantage when OcUK will change pretty much any component for you, if you ask), you can really put the care into the cable management etc and go the extra mile, if you wish - OcUK do a very good job, but they still can't put as much time and care into the build for every customer... if you want a really superb job with some mods, excessively good cable management etc, then you should do it yourself. You also get the pride of doing it yourself, and better knowledge of your own system - if you made it, you'll also understand how to modify it later.

Personally, I'd rather build it myself and get a slightly better spec for my money: but in a couple of years time I'll probably be busy enough to prefer to give someone else some money to do all the legwork for me.

Isn't there an offer on for £0 building charge? (or was that last week? just remember seeing an announcement)

I'd personally rather build it myself and usually suggest people do as a pre-built comes at something like £40-50 charge afaik, but if it's free this week why not :p Although you're right in it's still limited to the components ocuk wish to stick in the options

I've dealt with a Corsair GS600 before and it was a nightmare.
We use 150+ of these each and every week, it's got a failure rate of less than 2% which is epic for a PSU.

Yes there is, we will build any configurator system with no build charge and this offer runs until Friday morning.

This is what I think I'm going for, I asked if I could swap the free mouse for a similar priced gaming keyboard but they won't have it, you would think spending £1250 they would at least look at it.
