Intel I9-14900K FB CPU, best way to test

I’ve found a cheap Intel I9-14900K on FB. Shown with box and claims to be working.

What would the best way be to go about to test it to be sure it is fully working. He’s asking for £100 for it which scream something.
I would not touch this with the current issues with 13th and 14th gen CPUs.

for that price its either faulty or they have broken it trying to do something stupid like delid it.

Could always try and check the warranty on the CPU if you have the serial etc

Probably a scam but just hammer it with different benchmarks & games to see if stable.
Cinebench R23, R15
OCCT
Any UE5 game with shader compilation. (Hogwarts etc. Wukong Benchmark Tool and First Descendent are free)

14900K's go for £300-£450 on ebay, so would avoid that post if it were me. Even a scammer could have easily asked for £200 for a quick sale.

CeX will give way more than £100 for a 14900K so it's obviously dodgy in some way.

Honestly though if it had degraded but could survive a loop of say, Cinebench for 30 mins, I'd still happily take it for £100. Limit the maximum 1/2t thread boost clock down a few hundred mhz and you have a functional CPU.

probably overclocked to within a micron of it's life, starting giving errors in event viewer or rebooting under load, even IF its real.

are you paying cash and meeting in an isolated spot where they can rob you?

Doubt cops would even investigate for a 100£ and the advert could have been set up by someone outside of the country so no way to trace them etc.

Unless this chip is from someone I know even then it would be a stop gap I'd stay well clear.

Watch the video on the Youtube channel Frame Chasers Stop Your Intel Crashes as he briefly goes over a degraded 13900K that crashes on the desktop under next to no load he got from a discord member that he was able to stabilise by locking to cores and upping the voltage but only covered 5 minutes of stress testing.

I've not seen or gone looking really for any long term data regarding stability with a degraded CPU and if it would pretty much stop further degredation or if it would be on a slow decline and it stop running properly at all. Just hope that its not so bad that the chip is stable at something crazy like 2-3ghz.

I would link the video here but it has swearing in it and any mention of him seems to trigger some people here.

Offer him 3.50. TBH I wouldn’t be interested at any price. The 14th gen is doomed and worth buying a motherboard for.
