*** Intel Kaby Lake is HERE! ***

Modern motherboards include many times more components, PCB layers and general complexity than boards did less than a decade ago.

Of course RGB and other aesthetic additions have added to the cost too.

More advanced features such as PLX, headphone amps and expanded connectivity also require third parts chipsets which aren't cheap.

Finally, in the last decade, the dollar rate has dropped from 2$ to the pound to today's rate of 1.2.

Screw me sideways, if my pc ever breaks I'm never going to be able to afford a new mobo ram and cpu to replace my i7 950

These prices show why the pc industry continues to decline and why diehard pc guys like me are now turning to consoles. Now quoting how much better the latest cpu is by comparing it to a 5yr old pc, not last years. LOL and much sadness. We must prey Zen is amazing and then I can go back to Amd.

Yeah I noticed that too... but they obviously have no choice. It would be absolutely laughable if ANYONE tried to sell this over Skylake, present it as a superior alternative or anything even resembling an upgrade. It would be the definition of absurd, and I'm struggling to think of a precedent. All other tech that I'm aware of actually DOES improve... whether people need it or not is another question of course, but virtually everything else sees noticeable gains between generations, and that even applies to goods outside of computer tech... cars, washing machines etc. They all add features and/or performance upgrades, you always get MORE with a new model. Kaby is just a big joke really, and it does feel like they are taking us for a ride, it really does. Also, if it weren't for the 5GHz OC ability of some chips, what the hell could they even say about it??!

And to think that when my i5 750 first released, I picked up a decent mid range mobo, the i5 750 retail chip and 4GB RAM for about £300 lol...

+1

I see more and more people jumping to consoles now and with the scorpio and next gen PS, I can see a **** load more PC gamers jumping to them, especially when the consoles are getting a lot of good exclusive titles these days, more so the PS (not to mention how completely and utterly broken a lot of games are for PC on release day now). It also helps since you can use a keyboard + mouse with consoles these days via 3rd party hardware workarounds.

When you see the likes of this as well as people now buying TVs to use as their monitors instead due to the lacklustre QC of monitors as well as shocking rip off prices, you just know what the PC market has come to lol.

Seen it coming years ago though, soon it really will only be the true PC enthusiasts left in the market, PC gaming just isn't what it use to be imo.

Of course Brexit hasn't helped matters at all either...

consoles don't provide anywhere near the same experience. The PC market isn't dead, not by a long shot. I for one am happy that my i7 4970k still holds up, allows me to put money into other things.

If you think AMD are going to have an answer then you will be bitterly disappointed.

The limits of silicon have pretty much been reached, a significant jump would require a huge overhaul. We are a long way from that being available to consumers.

My i5 2500K, Asus P8P67 & 4GB Geil Ram came to £335.96 way back in Feb 2011 & its still going strong, the only thing ive upgraded since is my gfx card to a GTX970, I was planning on building a new pc ready for Mass Effect: Andromeda this March but these prices are damn hard to swallow, especially the mobo prices.

Cannonlake at 10nm is due out this year. I don't know what performance jump it will have, but one thinks it could be significant
