Intel had this bright idea of a GPU many many years ago, It was going to be EPIC. They bought out gaming companies to design games for them and bought Havok Physic engine

I remember a Game called Project Offset that was coming to Larabee, This was going to be like a Lord of the Rings kinda game & looked epic. I 1st remember reading about it in Edge Magazine.

The Idea and spec were really good on paper. Lets hope Intel have better luck with ARC graphics card & technology. I'm sure a lot of people want them to do really well.

Looking at that Video again, i'm really impressed by the style of the Graphics, from all those years. think this would make an amazing game!!

Some of the graphics are very impressive from back then. It also highlights my feelings these days that sometimes better looks at the expense of resolution can make for a better sell of the image.

Larabee did go on to find a market, repurposed for use in data centres, if I remember correctly.

I don't know what Intel were thinking really, it was basically a GPU that did all of its raster rendering on multiple, highly specialised CPU cores! in the same way Sony tried to do with the Cell processor in the PS3.

Since we have upscalling solutions such as DLSS or FSR, we already don't chase that much the resolution - at least not native. Consoles aren't really 4k/8k, although that's marked on the box. They can't do native 4k for all games.
For sure if the consoles were 1080p@30fps then the graphics would be that much ahead of where we are or will be.
