Intel LGA2011 Socket, X68 Express Chipset :D

"only one DIMM per channel" so I'm guessing only 4 DIMM slots on a motherboard with 12 cores and 24 threads. :( I hope memory makes a large increase in capacity in that time or they do a EATX version with 8 slots. :D

I look forward to seeing these released.

So what happenned to Socket 1356 then? Looked like that was going to be a more likely replacement for 1366 with 'only' tripple channel RAM. Then 2011 was the quad-RAM platform for servers (and nutters). Has 1356 been scrapped or what?

Yep the high performance socket for Sandy Bridge is lga2011 due Q3. As far as I it'll be the only platform to have the 6 core/8 core SB chips. Not sure if we'll see 6 core on 1155 at a later date.

It is strange how 1366 socket will exist for nearly 3 years and the 1156 socket only lasted 18 months. I guess buying the best can last you sometimes. I will be upgrading to socket 2011 when it comes out, i think all early 1366 adopters will to.

I fancy the 12 core, primarily for rendering out of 3ds max, Vue; but the 8 core iterations will probably become the EE chips at the 980x price range and the 12 cores a lot more? with the SB architecture you could get some mad overclocks, so either way the I'll be going for the 2011 processors.

12 cores > PCIE - 3.0 > 4 x 16X Quad SLI > 6.0 GHz minimum OC > Quad Channel memory controller

No harm in dreaming. :D

And what about the PC hardware, firmware and software 2.19TB limitation in that you need Host Bus Adapter to use the drive (plus more cables). That needs sorting by then.

Add native mobo USB 3.0 support and that will tick the boxes for me in the 2nd gen 2011 processors 2.5 years from now.

I see the irony in that there will be 2011 pins (current year) but won't be released until 2012 for consumers :p

No, we'll just laugh at your pathetic willy-waving like we currently do with 980X users ;) :D

People should enjoy what they have and upgrade when their PC starts to crawl, not when something flashy comes out. I've managed with my current QX6700 since 2006 and its only now I actually see the need to upgrade. And only once I can get 2.5x the performance of my current setup do I start a new build.

I hear people also wanting to wait for 2011 but your talking about another 11+ months from now for that to arrive.

Bulldozer comes out long before that. :D

I think we can assume that LGA2011 will be very expensive - is it safe to say that it needs nearly twice as many pins as LGA1155 because they're planning to make 8/12 core chips for it? There may not be an i7 920 equivalent on launch, unfortunately.

No info, just assumptions. Die shrink with Ivy Bridge + twice as many pins means they could probably squeeze 12 cores in.

Haswell will be on 22nm also, expected in Q1 of 2013 so I'd expect they'd wait until then for 12 core chips personally, but as you say it's all speculation at this point.

8 cores predicted as standard on haswell in Q1 2013. Only two years, scary stuff  lol Having said that bulldozer is 8 core as well? 4 modules is that correct?
