I wanted to build a small PC for a while, something small enough to sit on a desk. My desk is 120x60cm and already has a 38" UW mounted on an arm. My last small build was an ITX system in an NZXT H500, there isn't enough space on the desk if I want to keep the monitor centered.

I was considering a small NUC but there just weren't enough M.2 slots, I also wanted Thunderbolt so I could use the dock built in to my LG 38WN95C-W. Then I saw @Defy Belief 's for sale thread listing the NUC 11 Extreme.

I had seen brief reviews for Intel NUCs but never considered them due to cost. However the NIC 11 Extreme has everything I wanted, a low power 8 core CPU, 4xNVME slots, good cooling and a small foot print.

The NUC 11 Extreme i7/i9 can be found for as little £500, add 64GB of RAM for £100, a couple of NVME drives for another £100, add an OS and you have a nicely priced compact PC.

There is the known issue of the annoying PSU fan, which uses 2 pins and is either on or off. I've order a Noctua PWM fan to replace this.

The NUC also looks and feels much better in person. In review videos and images it looks a little cheap and plasticky.

Any questions just ask.
