Hi All,

Are these intel based mini PCs any good? Want to get a tiny machine to attach to the rear vesa mount on the samsung smart tv we have in our kitchen.

Main use playing video from home server, iPlayer/ sky go etc. In theory our TV does iPlayer, but its the lack of Sky Go thats the deal breaker (Need Sky F1 channel in kitchen when running in for munchies during the race).

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Thanks all,

Looks like I might be going NUC! What would you say is the cheapest/ neatest route without compromising the user experience? I guess it will have to run windows because pof the Sky go side of things?

Looks like it would have to be windows unless there is a way of using it through an android VM on linux?

As for hardware probably something like this would be fine however you might want to double check on the memory, iirc some people have had problems with SODIMMs because the NUC wants 1.35V ram not 1.5V (not sure why OcUK doesn't stock any low voltage SODIMMs atm). Also grab yourself a nice wireless card like the Intel AC 7260 (OcUK don't stock them yet).

Has anyone used a NUC for transcoding on the fly with Air Video? I'm looking for the cheapest possible solution for a HTPC that can also transcode without stuttering. I have a HP Microserver but the CPU in it is not beefy enough to cope with HD transcodes.

I have the celeron nuc with 4gb of RAM (could have easily got away with 2gb) and a 30gb msata drive (could have got away with a usb stick) stuck on the back of my TV running openelec. Handles 1080p mp4, iplayer hd and even aeon nox skin no problem. I think if I was running xbmc from windows I would want the i3 or i5, but the celeron is good enough for what I need it for.
