I currently have the Gigabyte Brix GB-XM12-3227 which is a 3rd gen dual core cpu @1.9ghz and HD4000 onboard GPU which i have openelec installed on and use it for watch films, Tv programs and retro emulation but im after something with a bit more grunt and also the fan gets a tad loud on this device.
Im currently looking at the 5th gen systems which should give a nice performance boost, mainly the Intel NUC Kit Rock Canyon and Gigabyte Brix GB-BXi3H-501 both broadwell cpus with HD5500 onboard GPU's. The Brix version doesnt seem to be out yet however and i think im leaning more to the look of the brix over the Intel. Which one of these devices is going to be the best, i know the intel has the Infrared receiver which the Brix does not but is there anythings else and how loud are the fans on these devices....im guess the 5th gen cpus dont produce anywhere near as much heat as the old 3rd gen cpus so the fan should have to work as hard??
Also would i be able to use the memory and micro SSD from my old brix in either of these new systems?
