Intel NUC Ubuntu/XBMC Help

Hi guys

Recently bought a NUC from eBay which came preloaded with ubuntu and xbmc.

The problem i am having is getting into ubuntu OS as the nuc starts up straight into xbmc media centre.

I do get a few options at start up stage to choose what i want to boot into:

ubuntu
advanced options for ubuntu

if i select advanced options then i get

ubuntu 13.x.x
ubuntu x.x.x (recovery)
ubuntu 12.x.x
ubuntu x.x.x (recovery)

recovery just takes me into a command terminal and the others just take me straight into xbmc.

now i want to get into the OS so i can copy files over and tinker with xbmc and add plex from disc etc.

if i exit out of xbmc then i end up on the desktop but its asking for a xbmc password and i dont know what it is.

any help would be appreciated.

So load Ubuntu on to a usb stick and format and install fresh and then install kodi?
