Dilema no upgrade path from current AMD 939 3800+ x 2.
Do i go AMD as bundle below or intel ?

*OVERCLOCKED* AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 2.8GHz @ 3.5GHz (Skt AM3) / Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P Motherboard / Corsair 4GB DDR3 XMS3 PC2-1600C9DHX TwinX (2x2GB) Bundle

Intel E5200 cpu and maybe Biostar mobo with 4gb ram etc.

Will need new operating system Vista Home P 64bit.know that if i go intel already 775 dead socket in future, but AMD not as AM3 if better Quads arrive in future ?

PC used mostly for gaming. Thoughts please.

What would you advise then Ninja !

I think there's a night and day difference in the two setups you bundled. The 720 would be a no brainer to me and I'm an intel fan. I assume you are on a budget no? If so I have heard wonderful things about the 720 tri core. You know you can drop that thing into an am2 socket board if you wanted to save even more money by holding off on the am3 socket board. That will give time for more selection of boards, which should make them cheaper, and hopefully ddr3 will also be cheaper by then. I'd hold off on the am3 socket board until more are made to choose from.

best bang for buck - go AMD
for pure performance - go for Intel

Anandtech had a good review on the quad AMD comparing it with the latest Intel chips, worth a read before you make up your mind...

What would you reccomend for a am2+ board then + ddr2.
Yes am on a budget already have 8800gt 512 gpu + 3 250gig hdd's 480watt psu etc.
Just do not want to be changing mobo's too often am2+ almost dead socket? Like 775 intel. Cheapest i7 bundle £499 TOO MUCH right now!

What's your budget. The ASUS M4A78 Pro Motherboard - AMD 790G is still am3 socket and is priced around $120. Really you would spend that much on any decent board. ddr3 is still pricey but has came down a lil recently. don't worry about buying 1600mhz ram, as ram can be overclocked. Go for a 1333mhz and save some money there too.

Id stick with your original suggestion, youre only going to save about £40 by going AM2+, and as you said you're gonna have to upgrade it sooner due to dead technology. stick with AM3, you're more likely to be able to upgrade this in the future, a little money spent now saves in long run :)
