Doesn't make a difference. Wait and see tomorrow how the new AMD cpu's perform :)

Yes it makes a difference.
Secondly, tomorrow won't give us anything "solid".

And when you're on an i7 1366 you'd never really consider AMD (As it stands with their best offering being an 8 core PD)

Wouldn't make a difference either way, but there are currently no AMD CPU's worth considering. We should soon find out if that is going to change though. :)

Isn't that sad how an 8 year old chip/platform is still this good......I wish I had something to upgrade to but there is nothing I can justify buying.

Remember back when the e6600 core2duo came out and it was like a damn breakthrough. Then the 1366 platform.........and since then very small performance increases (for the average user ofc).

Give me something to buy AMD, please!

If there was no difference in games with different CPU's we'd all be using the cheapest thing we can?

I assumed the OP meant from a compatibility/stability point of view, its quite clear that different CPU's perform differently.

should i stick it out with the i7 920 then

That or upgrade to a newer Intel setup, nothing from AMD is worth the switch just yet. But they should be releasing their new CPU's soon, so you could wait and see how that goes before making a decision. :)

It's not that it's good, it's still competitive because of the crap improvement from Intel/AMD over the last 5+ years - poor show from the SC industry.

That means basically the same thing... :p

But there is a much bigger difference between a first gen i7 and a current gen i7 than people realise. All those little steps have added up.

That is stock for stock. Clock for clock the difference is much smaller though.

Don't think many will be interested in buying a 920 but I still get one extra cores will always help ;-)

If you NEED to upgrade now Intel obviously if you can wait 1 or 2 months (Jan/Feb) Ryzen (Formally Zen) should be out so you can decide between Kaby Lake and Ryzen.

With a 480 though I can't imagine you will be bottle-necked that much, I can still "play" I use play loosely but I can still run games with a Core2Duo paired with my 480.

I'm really excited for Ryzen... :D

I just read the newly released details on it, it sounds like it will be just behind Intels offerings with single threaded, in front with multi threaded, will consume a similar amount of power (yay no Bulldozer power draw!) and will no doubt be cheaper! :)
