Intel or G Skill Falcon SSD?

Which one is it best to get?

Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (SSDSA2MH080G1)

G.Skill Falcon 128GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (FM-25S2S-128GBF1)


The intel seems to perform better but doesn't have TRIM support at present whereas the G Skill one does I believe. I'm thinking best to have the intel for OS and applications and use my two present HDDs in raid for general storage. Hopefully Intel will release a firm/bios update for TRIM when Windows 7 is released fully next year.

What do you think??
 
If you have the money the intel is the best one out on the market right now. I do believe it is SLC and not MLC so therefore the trim is not needed. The intel should not degrade much at all.

EDIT: it's the other intel SSD that is SLC.

I'd say get the GSkill as it's got higher capacity and already has TRIM support, so is a known. The Intels, although very very good, have been around for a long time now (at least long in terms of SSD development) and they are also very expensive - and they are an unknown in so far as when or if they will support TRIM.
 
OCUK don't seem to sell the new Intel SLC SSD. If you want to look for it though, it's called the X25-E Extreme. It's only 60Gb and costs over 600 beans.
 
It would need to be a hell of a lot faster and last a hell of a lot longer for 600 beans, that nearly a full tin.

128gig Falcon appears to be a much better deal, I have one and can't fault it. The extra capacity is really handy and to be honest, if it fails in 3yrs, I will have prolly replaced it by then anyway. I don't expect it to fail in the next 15yrs tho.


I think you would be better with the Falcon
 
I'd go for the Falcon if I were you. Even though with each firmware update you'll have to wipe the entire thing. You can flash it to a vertex but that'd void the warranty. The performance difference from a normal HDD will still be massive, and the falcon isn't far behind the intel at all in real-world performance, may as well save the dough.
 
that looks nice, shame that ocuk dont sell a 64gb version.

Starting to see a lot of competition in the ssd market now.
