In process of dismantling an older PC and just noticed that there is a hole drill in one corner of the Heatspreader. I know for a fact that some of the arctic silver used as a TIM will have got into this hole. Is this going to cause any problems when the chip is used again? Is the hole normal?

If it looks like this you're OK:

That's a prescott-core celeron but you get the idea.

Yep it does - thanks - just dont remember it being there when I put it together but when you have a head like a seive these things happen.

The hole is there to allow the solvent in the compound that intel use to stick the IHS on to evaporate, nothing else.

maybe its a case of silicon worm :D No really, the hole is supposed to be there, my P4 Northwood has it too. :)
