yo guys,

had a thread recently about a processor i got for cheap, well £20 it cost me, brand new in retail packaging an old Intel Pentium D Exetreme 3.46ghz, for my old system, which had an old P4 HT 650,

now ive installed it, with Arctic silver 5, and used the standard intel heatstink, and im gettin idle temps of about 55c, which iw asnt happy with, so i took the cpu out, and cleaned off the old ac5 on the cpu and heatsink, and reapplied it again, and im still gettin roughly the same idle temps,

ive left it for a week now, and it never goes below 50 @ idle, i used a small blob in the middle, and put my finger in a lil plastic bag, and spread it over evenly, then placed the heatsink on firmly and quickly without any movements,

are these temps about right for this processor? may get a AC freezer pro and shove it on it, see if it makes a diff :)

any light on this would be great

cheers simon

These processors do run hot, I was getting around 45-50c idle with my p4 (i think it was a 530) overclocked to 3.8ghz with an AC7 cooling it!

ah thats alrite then! thought it was like that,

how things change through different chips, my core 2 quad idles at half of what the p4 does! :) but hey it is watercooled! :P

cheers guys!

It will run hot - it's one of the highest rated P4s with a TDP of 130W if memory serves. That's more than double a Core2 E6750...

I had a 930 for a short while which was rated at 95W and that was a hot little bugger.

ah cool, ive also noticed, its running at 3.20ghz instead of the full 3.46ghz, this may be from speedstep or something? :)

cheers si

your a jem mate! thanks for the info :)

gonna leave speedstep on, its on on my Q6600 to :)
