While everyone’s talking about Intel and Nvidia based on a rumour form a site with no evidence Intel have been showing more and more hints of buying PowerVR. PowerVR’s shares shot up by well over 10% and Intel actually bought 6 million shares off PowerVR. The two companies announced that they have reached a new major collaboration agreement

“has reached a new stage that will see the companies working together to enable a growing range of Intel processors with Imagination’s industry-leading graphics and video capabilities. We are delighted to continue and extend this relationship with Intel for our new generation of PowerVR graphics and video cores.”

I have to wonder why everyone’s talking about Nvidia when all the evidence points towards Intel and PowerVR. When you look at the relationship between the two companies just why would Intel want or need Nvidia? Why waste money buying licence’s off PowerVR when you plan to buy Nvidia? If your talking over Nvidia why buy shares in PowerVR instread of Nvidia?

What happens if it’s true and Intel merge/buy PowerVR? This isn’t going to leave Nvidia in a good position.

Intel are looking to save money, not spend it (unless they want to free up money to buy someone out...)

I don't see why they would invest money into a company and then buy it

I think people are reading into this too much.

Uhhhhhh....thats how companies are bought.

They buy as many shares as they can in it, then attempt to take it over with the rest of the shareholders consent.

:p

PowerVR is more a brand name, not a company.“

No need to be rude,
PowerVR is not so much a brandname its more a sub company or divisions of the main company.

The Imagination Technologies is split into 5 divisions each working in different areas and not all based completely in the same building or location. PowerVR is the section that works on graphic chips while PURE Digital is the section that works on DAB and speakers.

In theory it’s possible for Intel to buy out only 1 area of the company like PowerVR. Though Imagination Technologies do have a monopoly on DAB radio perhaps Intel want large slice of that?

Go to http://www.imgtec.com/Downloads/Factsheets/RecruitmentBrochure2005-6.pdf and scroll down you will see the company is split into 5 section not all based in the same building/location. Got the job pages and you will also see the companies split into 5 sections.

I personally believe Intel is only interested in PowerVR not all the other stuff.
