Intel Presler Vs. Conroe

The new Conroes would smash the old Intel's, Its not even worth buying a presler even for 80 pounds which i think is so expensive considering you can get newer technology for a mere 30 pounds more.

my benchmark results have been lost in a jungle of files and folders named 'back up'

i had my 930 presler at 4.4 Ghz, and it was damn quick. but these core 2's are quick also !

ill try and look for some.

i miss the good ol days of silly clock speeds !

must admit it is a bit "late in the day" to be buying pentium d 9xx series, but for those that already own them - or if you can pick one up very cheap they are still lovley chips =] have a few mates running 'em

Pair an E4300 with a cheap mobo, and you can clock till you drop. Budget C2D boards arent that expensive, and some have some good overclocking potential.

Owned a Presler 945, and now have a Conroe 6400, so I speak from experience.

The Conroe eats the Presler for breakfast.

Comparing them with the PenD clocked to 4.0Ghz and the E6400 at stock, the Conroe wins hands down. Faster SuperPi times by a good 5 seconds, and faster in 3DMark05/06.

Noticeably so in gaming: FEAR was jittery for me at times with the PenD, to the point of annoyance. With the conroe, handled with ease. This was on the same GPU, a X1900GT.

Now, I'm OC'd to 3.2Ghz at present and have a X1900 XT. I'm in gaming nirvana...

The jury is definitely out on the E4300 for overclocking. E6x00 still seem a better bet for overclockers at the moment.

Also - the Intel motherboards are not that expensive - £70-£100 buys you a Gigabyte S3/DS3/DS4 or ASUS P5N-E SLi board.
