From what I hear Intel are dropping the price of their processors on the 21/22 July as the new Q6700 comes out.

Also a new range of E6xxxx which will be cheap as well.

If you are thinking of buying, wait a few days first.

From what I have read the Q6700 is being phased out, leaving the Q6600 as the only quad core 65nm chip

This is what I have read on most forums/web sites

Intel is planning to revise its Core 2 lineup this fall with the introduction and removal of several dual and quad-core models, HKEPC reports. Most noticeable is the introduction of the new top models of the Quad series, Q9650 3.0GHz, and the Duo series, E8600 3.33GHz. In turn, Intel will phase out the Q9300 and Q9450 models and replace them with Q9400, which has a core clock of 2.66GHz, but only 6MB L2 cache. The older 65nm Q6700 will be phased out and the Q6600 will see a slight price reduction. As Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 enters, E8300 will leave the market, which means that the lowest clocked member of the E8000 series will run at 3.0GHz. Intel will also bring a new E7000 series model to the market with the Core 2 Duo E7300.

I'm in the middle of buying parts for my next upgrade, already ordered my mobo and ram. I want to buy a Q9450 or Q9550 waiting to see how much they will drop before I decide which to get.

Ooo can't wait, would put the Q9550 in my budget rather than the Q9450 which would have a higher chance of reaching 4GHz when OC'd :)

When will Negalem be released aint that like ages away?

Q4, in 2.66, 2.93, and 3.something (extreme edition).

The 2.66 will be around $285/1000 units, the 2.95 $550ish, and the 3.whatever will be $999. They may release a $1300 part as well, but who knows :P. I cant be bothered to look up the exact prices :P

By comparison, the Q9450 is currently $314 in 1000 unit batches.
