Hi chaps.

I am in the market for a new network card and having trawled through this section of the forum, this above seems like everybody's favourite.

I have a Netgear DG834PN router and a very stable, but slow line. Is the above my best bet? I notice that OcUK sell cards which are a lot cheaper, like the Edimax EN-9260TX-E Gigabit PCI Express Network Card, and some cheaper option from TP-Link. I do not need a wireles card but am looking for something solid and reliable. The cost is a factor, as I would rather spend as little as possible.

I also notice that searching for the Intel card, there appears to be two variants for sale, one of which is a 66Mhz model for a couple of quid more. Is is worth the extra pennies?

Many thanks.

Is there anything wrong with your onboard NIC? Because unless you're actually having throughput issues and you're sure it's the NIC you aren't going to experience any difference.,

The Edimax card you linked to is a PCI-Express card, but the 1000/GT 66Mhz is usually a PCI card.

So, do you have PCI slot or PCI-E slot and secondly, if it's PCI is it 66Mhz or 33Mhz.

The "Intel Gigabit CT", is their PCI-E card.

Just use onboard or any old cheap gigabit card (like the edimax), it'll make no difference to your broadband speeds.
You only need an Intel NIC if you're trying to squeeze more throughput from large gigabit data transfers or need advanced networking features.

From this it sounds like you are hoping to improve your internet speed in which case a new NIC wont make a difference as your connection is limited by the phone line/router. The NIC will only improve the connection to your local network (the internal side of the router)
