Hi all,

Running a server at home on 2012 R2 and trying to setup NIC teaming, however I can't seem to get the necessary drivers to install for my PT adaptor. When running the intel setup it says that no intel adaptors were detected and thus it cannot copy the driver files.

Now in device manager the adaptor appears there as Intel Pro 1000 PT Dual port server adaptor and can connect to the network, but under its configuration I do not have an option for NIC teaming. So I assume it is using an old/microsoft driver instead?

Anyway to fix this?

Cheers

Ali

You might have been better posting in the enterprise and server section. I can't give you a definitive answer, but as someone owning multiple variants of this card I do know they are EOL support wise. Most recent Windows desktop variants are listed as OOTB support only for this card (i.e. the only driver available is the one that comes preinstalled with Windows, and Intel won't be providing any more). You'd have to dig out the driver page for your particular card to check, but I suspect that would be the case on 2012 as well.

These drivers are definitely available on the Intel site as I grabbed them less than a month ago. Try a slightly older version or make sure it is definitely R2.

Check Server Manager for the option for NIC teaming?
Try to uninstall the existing NIC drivers in device manager?

Intel are great at forcing you to upgrade. The newer 2 port cards are around £100 a pop.

That's why the older gen cards are so cheap second hand.

intel i350-t2 is the newer 2 port card.

You should be able to force windows 7 drivers to install for 2008 r2.

Thanks for the replies guys. Still not had any success. Tried using the Windows 7 drivers to no avail, will try some previous versions.

I have definitely had it working before so not quite sure how I managed it!

Anything else to try? have tried uninstalling from device manage etc

I think before I've extracted them to a folder, then forced device manager to use the inf files in that folder, then picked the device.

Then I could use trunking / vlans etc.

Solved it.

For some reason using any of the windows 7 or 2008 R2 drivers didn't actually install the intel drivers but reverted to a 2011 Microsoft driver.

I tried installing the 2008 drivers and the install failed because it didn't like the OS, so I installed the inf manually as bledd suggested, which updated the driver to an intel driver dated 2012. Still didn't have any options for teaming etc.

To fix this for some reason downloading and installing the drivers for 2012 R2 here: http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-006120.htm

Even though the PRO1000 PT is not listed under that driver. I think its still using the 2008 driver but using the teaming utility from the new 2012 R2 driver pack
