Hi all,

Have been holding off buying my new rig until the proposed Intel Q2 price cut comes in as there is quite a significant drop. I know Q2 is officially April onwards but just wondering if any of you have any ideas/speculation about when we're likely to see the difference here in Blighty.

Also have to bear in mind that this is a wholesale price cut so I guess retailers may not follow straight away.

Cheers.

One of the most noticeable cut, Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.40 GHz/4MB L2 x 2/1066MHz FSB), which is going to launch on Jan 7 2007, is planned to be cut from $851 to $530, a 37.7% off. Meanwhile, Core 2 Duo E6700 (2.66 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6600 (2.4 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) is planned to cut from $530 and $316 to $316 and $224 respectively, a 40.3% and a 29.1% off.

Over and above, though Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13 GHz/2MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6300 (1.83 GHz/2MB L2/1066MHz FSB) haven’t got too much cut in this plan, says from $224 to $183 (18.3%) and from $183 to $163 (10.9%), Intel would like to give a special gift to this models, a 2MB extra L2 Cache (total 4MB L2 Cache). These 4 MB L2 Cache versions, namely Core 2 Duo E6420 (2.13 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB) and E6320 (1.83 GHz/4MB L2/1066MHz FSB), are going to launch on the same day of price cutting.

In addition, the previously planned Intel Core 2 Duo E6390, which does not support for VT, has been canceled in the future plan.

On the entry-level dual core market, besides Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8 GHz/2MB L2/800MHz FSB), which will be launched on Jan 21 2007, there is another E4400 (2 GHz/2MB L2/800MHz FSB) coming in Q2 2007 set at a price of $133. On the day of E4400’s launch and onward, E4300 will has a new price from $163 to $113, a 30.7% off.

Processor Speed FSB L2 cache Q1 price Q2 price

Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 1066MHz 2x4MB $851 $530
Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz 1066MHz 4MB $530 $316
Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz 1066MHz 4MB $316 $224
Core 2 Duo E6420 2.13GHz 1066MHz 4MB - $183
Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz 1066MHz 2MB $224 $183
Core 2 Duo E6320 1.83GHz 1066MHz 4MB - $163
Core 2 Duo E6300 1.83GHz 1066MHz 2MB $183 $163
Core 2 Duo E4400 2.0GHz 800MHz 2MB - $133
Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8GHz 800MHz 2MB $163 $113

They certainly have'nt dropped from what i have seen today. I have checked over 30 retailers today and the prices are more or less the same as a fortnight ago, give or take a couple of quid here and there. If anything they have gone up at a lot of places, especially the 6600.

Hopefully its only 2 months until these price drops as then I can seriously think about a core 2 duo upgrade :D

What would the likely £ prices when we do get it for the below chips

Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 1066MHz 2x4MB $851 to $530 (£270)
Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz 1066MHz 4MB $530 to $316 (£161)
Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz 1066MHz 4MB $316 to $224 (£114)

Would I be in the right area with the below guess's ?

Q6600 £320
E6700 £190
E6600 £135

Also is there any more Quad Core version being released with in the next 4 - 6 months as I would prefer to go quad core as i think it would last me longer in the long run.

Hopefully we'll see price cuts like that but I'm really not sure - UK often doesn't feel the full benefit. There will be more Quad cores coming out :

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6400 is expected to be released in June. The Q6400 is expected to feature a clock speed of 2.13GHz running on a 1066Mhz FSB and featuring 2x4MB of L2 cache.

No idea on pricing though.

Yes, they are the $price per 1000 units, and of course its the usa price. However it's still usefull to know, For instance right now the wholesale price of the E6600 is currently $316, and that will be the 'new' price for the E6700, so you can look up the current E6600 price, and that will be pretty close to the 'new' E6700 price etc.

Yeap been holding off jumping onto Vista/R600 and a quadcore myself however just read this :

Intel to adjust CPU pricing

Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report is indicating that Intel plans to cut prices for selective single-core Pentium 4 (P4) and entry-level dual-core CPUs in the range of 5-10% before April 22.

Intel had originally planned to introduce a massive price cut on April 22, but after AMD announced price cuts on February 12 for 17 desktop Athlon 64 single- and dual-core CPUs, Intel has decided to adjust its pricing earlier than expected, the report noted.

Channel distributors stated that price reduction will focus on entry-level and mainstream CPUs, with 820 and 915 series prices expected to drop 5-10% to around US$80.

Intel has only recently updated its official January pricing, with most of its most recent price cuts being for Pentium 4, Pentium D and Celeron D processors.

Doesnt sound like the prices will be that much off :( Dont even see where it says there gonna drop prices on the quad core either ! they may not even.

Either way I dont like this and it doesnt help if AMDs Quadcore is due Summer 07?

I would really hate to buy a Intel quadcore and AMDs release there killer Quadcores 2-3 months later !

There still £560-640... got a while to wait yet !

but yeah I think with Supreme commanders release.... few heads have turned the era for Vista/DX10 gaming and a quad cores now becoming an likely option.....
