Intel Q3 price drops.

I can get my Q6600 stable at 463MHz x 8 (1.4500v) on air (using a Gigabyte X38 DQ6), so I reckon it should give me a half decent result with a Q9550 on an eight and a half multi....

^At £155 or so for 3.33ghz it should make a good buy for people who don't want to overclock. It'll be the highest clock speed we've seen from Core2 and will be popular with gamers I'd imagine. The E8500 looks like better value to me though at £40 less.

No mention of Q8000 I think they will come later, the last roadmap I had through (May) still had the Q6600 on it through till Q2 2009! I will try and find out more info on monday, I don't think they are in any kind of rush since the Q6600 sells so well what we really need is AMD to actually put some pressure on them.

Sorry I think you misunderstand I'm aware of the E5000 and Q8000 forthcoming products but have had no mention directly from Intel regarding launch dates etc.

I believe everbody knows whats coming its just when we can get our mits on them.

I know your aware of them i just posted the link as it says things contrary to the roadmap

For example

" The Q8200 will be fabbed at 45nm and replace the current 65nm Q6000 line. "

Ahh I see in that case no worries, I hae been working off the info that the Q8000 line will replace the Q6000 line and will be 45nm entry level quads.

For people who don't want to overclock ? :O

Last roadmap I say only had the q6600 for sale in q3 2008 and then disappearing which is what I would expect really, eol in the next 3 months.

Can't help but feel that just now is a bad time to buy a processor.

Do the quarterly price cuts normally come near the beginning or end of the quarter.

And what would the likely price to us be for the e8500, if the price per 1000 is $183? About £110, like the e8400 currently is?

CPU's seem a bit overpriced at the moment when I look at these price lists.

Well I've now seen the 20th of this month being mentioned more than once, tho some chips won't drop til the 10th August. Certainly worth waiting a couple of weeks.

Sigh... just checked up on my motherboard and CPU support. I am on BIOS 1.6 and really don't want to update bios as have had issues in past, which means the single best CPU I can get is a Q6600. All wolfdales are only supported from bios 1.8 :(

I like the Q6600, but its just a little hot and power hungry for my liking.

@ ffallic

v1.8 is fine here on my P35 Platinum (same board/bios as yours just mine has firewire and waky cooler).

Glad the price drops are confirmed now I got the feeling everybody thought I was full of BS :D LOL
