I got this chip with a pre built rig back in 2009 and I've upgraded everything apart from the actual CPU...Upgrades to the case, mobo, ram, gpu, psu etc but this chip STILL does the business for me when I'm gaming or day to day use.

I was going to have a look at ivybridge when it comes out but that would mean a new kit of mobo, ram, cpu and cooler. I'm not sure I really need to go down that route as yet tbh as I can't say I've seen anything that makes my PC struggle. All games play over 60fps @ 1680*1050 with the 570GTX I have and I've no problem with any applications either.

Anything I want doing with the q9550, it does it...and does it well. Anyone else out there still very happy with their q9550 chip? :)

Running a Q9650 here as I didn't want to replace my whole rig.
Currently running at 4Ghz and it eats everything i throw at it, just need to upgrade my gfx now really.

I currently run a [email protected] and cannot find a single reason to upgrade bar getting better bench numbers, I personally believe that this chip will last another couple of years before I upgrade. I only use my PC for gaming and so far this and my 6950@970mhz/5550mhz plays everything I throw at it on max @ 1920x1200.

Q9550 in HTPC, undervolted in Antec Fusion case cooled by XP-120 heatsink and Apache fan, silent and powerful, also have another Q9550 in my parents HTPC @ 3.8Ghz, cooled by a Noctua NH-C14 in a coolermaster elite 360 i think, silent and very powerful :)

Still running my Xeon X3360 which is just the server grade version of the q9550 which I've had since June 09.

Will be swapping out for Ivy later this year though :)

A great chip, but I've been unable to clock it. I'm still running a 975x board which only supports 1333mhz fsb via a bios update, so don't fancy upping it any more :(

lol! i never even bothered to try a Q6600 in a 975X board muchless a 45nm Quad! My 965P DS4 surprised the hell out of me running an E8190 (E8200 without VT) and getting it to @ 3.4Ghz

One, here too.

I have mine at 4GHz on a Abit IP35 Pro and 8Gb ram. Along with a gtx 570 I'm pretty content with all the games I play at 1920x1200. Ivy Bridge was my intended upgrade platform for a long time. But lately with less gaming and being busy with other commitments I just do not feel the need to upgrade.

Hi Everyone o/ My First Post :)

Bought a 2700K on preorder in Oct and sold my Q9550 in January for £140 (i paid £135 for it 18 months ago.. damn these chips keep their price :D ) Needed the upgrade for video encoding and a nice upgrade it was too :p

Running a Q9650@3GHz since 09 (I think) and was thinking of doing an upgrade to IB. But now thinking I'll just replace my SSD and PSU with a modular model to tidy cables and then wait for the Haswell CPU in 2013.

None of my games/app's feel slow and most run max'd out so see no point in an upgrade just yet. But damn am I getting itchy fingers.

AStaley.

Still rocking a Q9550 @ 3.7. No immediate plans to upgrade. Handles my games and applications fine.

[email protected] here, I ve been using it for almost exactly 3 years now - but not sure if it's that great chip any longer, it's holding me back in Windows Experience Index to only 7.4 :D

Thinking about going IB in a hope it will be possible to cool it equally quietly @5GHz as [email protected]. Besides faster CPU I also want native SATA3 and USB3 and faster RAM, BIOS up to date compatibility with modern HW... so maybe my MB is more of a reason to upgrade than the CPU itself, or maybe it's 50-50

My Q9550 lasted me just over 4 years, only got rid of it last november. I have never had a CPU so long, normally 3 years max. It was clocked at 3.4GHz using 1.23v, in the 17 years I have had a home PC it was the best CPU I have ever had.

Be nice if my sandybridge lasts as long :)
