Hi,

I'm after a decent aftermarket cooler for my Q9550. It needs to fit an asus P5Q Deluxe board in an antec P180 case.

Any suggestions? Not sure which ones will fit/work well with the chipset cooling on the board....

Thanks.

Tuniq Tower, or a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. Tho for some reason they're pretty expensive here atm, but there's a good example of the latter going for a song in the MM atm.

Tuniq Tower, TRUE.. Also Thermalright IFX is overlooked.. keeps my 3.6Ghz 6750 51°C Load, don't know how it copes with a quad, never seen anyone with a Quad and an IFX.

Thanks - I know the TRUE and Tuniq Tower are frequently recommended for quad cores, but do they have any fitment issues on the asus P5Q Deluxe?

I've also just read about some issues with uneven bases on the TT - do these still exist? Zalman GPU heatsinks I've used in the past have always had an impressively flat and polished base, so in that respect the 9700 sounds interesting but again will it fit ok on the p5Q?

I'm pretty sure all recent heatsinks should comply to the intel and amd socket clearance guidlines (as do the m/b manufacturers) so it should not be an issue whichever board you have. The tunig tower and other huge heatsinks use a baseplate under the motherboard to secure them so are more tricky to fit than the push the pin type but so long as you don't mind taking the PC to bits to get the m/b out you should be fine with them.

TRUE + P5Q-Deluxe Fits!

May wanna check your case width though, tis awesomely close on the P182

wow - thats close. Can you fit the side of the case on?

I've got the earlier P180, which doesn't have the clearance behind the motherboard tray so probably a fraction more space available. Unless they widened the case a little for the P182 of course. :D

got a true with that quad, with 2 120mm strapped on it

Nice pics of that P5Q Deluxe I need an aftermarket cooler and I wasn't sure on some of the size thanks! :D

Hmm.. well, read some issue regarding screws with the Tuniq Tower, which puts me off a bit. Looked into getting a TRUE but OCUK are out of stock. Same goes for the Noctua too... :(

....so I've just ordered a Zalman 9700. Its not that much worse than the TT, and I don't intend to push the chip to its max oc limit/voltage anyway.

Well, recon I should have waited now. :(

Fitted zalman with care as heard tales of cut fingers etc.

Idle temps no much different to stock cooler, which is odd. A couple of degrees cooler maybe.

At stock speeds when running prime with high temp torture test on all 4 cores, highest temp core is at high 50's. Currently have cpu at just over 3ghz on stock volts, and temp is into mid/high sixties with same test?

Seems stable though - ran the prime test for a hour with no errors as a "quick" test. Will probably run for longer over the weekend.

Anybody else using a Zalman with a 45nm quad, and what temps are you getting?

Using the latest corrected version of core temp too.
