Hi, i am having to purchase a new pc as mine has bust, i was going to order a AMD A6 6400k 3.9ghz with mobo from a shop but a friend of a friend is selling a Intel quad core 2.40ghz i haven't a clue what model number for the Intel is but he says its like a i3? so my question is which is better? I will be doing light gaming and a lot of video editing and surfing the web. T.I.A :)

At the shop i can get what i need for 150, that's cpu, mobo, psu and case, i already have had, graphics card and ram, yes i do have a copy of windows, this guy wants 170 for Intel quad core, 5gb ram, 1tb hdd and standard case and no graphics card is included.

@joeyjojo, i have hdd, graphics card and ram, im after a cpu, mobo, case and psu, i do a lot of video editing, surfing and light gaming ie the son likes the Lego games, o have around £150 which i can get everything from the shop (i don't know if i can mention shop names)

The CPU sounds like it is a Q6600.

I'm no expert, but... I started out on a Q6600 and upgraded to an FX6 6350.
From even just my basic, Noob-level perspective, the 6-core AMD one was vastly superior to the 4-core Q6600!!

The Q ran at 3.5Ghz when overclocked (but could go higher if you know what you're doing), whereas the AMD one runs at 3.9Ghz standard and will turbo up to 4.2 just by using AMD's own user-friendly software... but I already have it at 4.5 (and even managed that on a cheap 400W PSU).

Its an A6 APU that he has been offered but yes you can find the 6350's for bargain prices these days.

OP what GPU and ram is it?

So which CPU should i go for?

Let's clear this up a bit.

The Intel your mate is offering sounds like a Core 2 Quad Q6600, which is 6 years old and worth about £20 so not a good choice!

To be blunt the HD 5450 is a miserable card for gaming. Find it on this GPU comparison table, way at the bottom!

The AMD A6 6400K you mentioned is an APU, which has integrated HD 8470D graphics. If you bought some fast DDR3 memory (2400 MHz) it would do a much, much better job in games than that old 5450!

If you can get the APU system then that's the one to get. Just remember fast memory will help it a lot - maybe even worth selling your current 8 G set and getting fast stuff.

I decided to go with the AMD A6, The guy wanted to much for nothing, yeah the hd5450 i had from years ago, i bought myself a GTX 760 (it was on offer hehe) so got everything home set it all up switched it on and nothing!! again, playing about with it and found out the it was the i/o shield that was shorting, i have took it off for now but is there anything i can do to stop it from shorting?
