Hey, I need a machine urgently as mine has just nuked itself and I have work to do. Has anyone else here ordered and received an intel quad core cpu from ocuk? Im trying to find out if theyre actually, genuinely in stock and ready to ship or not. All the other companies ive contacted have said nobody will have any til next year.

If I order one on monday, will I get it on tuesday?

Also a small side note, are there any mobos particularly recommended for them?

If your loaded go for a 680i based board, if you want one that is still good then the Gigabyte DS3/4 is always a good choice.

Also take a look at the P5B-E Plus as its rumoured to be a good board (don't know myself).

The last machine I built was a (now smoldering) amd 939 4400+. What would a 680i based board be?

how exactly did you smolder your pc!!, drip tea on it or something? lol

splashing out on a quad core, blimey i wish i had your money lol, i take it you get all your money from your pc, so while your at it get sli 8800 ;)

and whilst we are on the overkill train why not get a fully custom water kit.....wait scratch that lets go phase :o better yet if you really have money to waste then why not just go ln2 (this would surely solve any further need for a heatsink upgrade and it will run without fans too!

The DFI Infinity 975X will support quad core with the latest BIOS and atm is very low priced here at OCuk... how good quad core runs on it tho I can't say as I've not yet gotten around to testing it.

Tho you would prolly need a non-quad core to flash to the latest beta BIOS to get quad core support if the board doesn't come with it... which it prolly doesn't.

More money than sense you say? Whats your phone number and address? ;)

On a more serious note in that case get this for motherboard/CPU/RAM:

Intel Core 2 Quadro Extreme Edition QX6700 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.66GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
(£669.74)

BFG nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(£182.11)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
(£162.14)

That should give you a good base on which to add other parts to your system.

But there is a bios update P23 that addresses this issue on the evga forum.

The floppy that came with the sata drivers failed to install, i downloaded the latest sata drivers from the evga site and problem solved. Dodgy floppy disc.

P21 bios seems fine for me, but then maybe its cause im not using raid.
