Intel has thrown a fortune at 3D stacking technology and started long before AMD.
It’s a strange decision and not looking good for Intel’s future CPU road map. Is the company going all in on Intel Rambo Cache™ or is it a case of of Intel concedes it can’t catch AMD’s CPU tech anytime soon, so focus everything on Ponte Vecchio and take the graphics card market?

I’ve been thinking about this and Intel can’t abandon 3D stacking as AMD will crush them.
I think this is a bluff, or Intel will change it mind.
