Hey guys n gals, i'm just wondering what processor you would recommend for an intel socket 775, it has to be 32bit and intel idealy dual core

Max price £75 - £100

Cheerz in advance :)

sorry, i think all lga775 CPUs were 64bit, but they all support 32bit OSs

e7300* is what i would get if not overclocking
e5200* if i was overclocking

*both are 64bit

Heya, Leethal was basically asking on my behalf (long story why).

But yeh, ummm what you were saying there jak731, it is a lga775 but its 32 bit (unless im mistaken for 2 years lol).

Check image below:

That chip is 64bit - see in the instruction set it says x86-64 (just x86 is 32bit). So you can run either 32bit or 64bit OS.

I would go for the E7300 which is 2.66GHz with 3mb cache. You'll need to double check that the motherboard will take these newer chips though, as your current chip is quite old. Any new Exxx chip will be much quicker :)

Well i'll be buggered i honestly thought i had 32bit lol, i just assumed to be honest. Anyways as for my motherboard ive posted an image for you to take a look:

Is it a HP Compaq PC? As there isn't any info on the Asus website for that model, so I think it is a custom one for HP.

That shows it will support the earlier Core 2 Duo chips, E4xxx and E6xxx so best to keep to them unless its a different make. If you have the model of the system itself that may give more info. There maybe a BIOS update to allow newer models for example.

E4600 is your best option really. If you decide to get it, following the guide on the website to update the BIOS first :)

yeh sure thing, just been reading about benefits of running vista in 64, so might try, the only problem with that is the hardware drivers, sometimes you cant always find suitable ones and to be honest lets face it anything which hasnt been blessed by microsoft aint going to work lol.
But anyway i really apprectiate what youve done so cheers for that.
