Intel's 4th gen processor codename: Haswell offers superior performance over the previous generation Ivybridge by up to 10% clock for clock. This astounding performance boost results in performance improvements in multi-tasking, encoding, gaming and multithreaded applications. Intel's 4th generation processor has improved PCI-Lane 3.0 bandwidth which helps further boost performance of latest generation 3 graphics cards for the ultimate gaming experience.

For overclocking enthusiasts, Intel's 4th gen CPU has improved memory overclocking support, with up to and beyond 3000MHz possible with the very best memory kits. Memory bandwidth is critically important to Haswell compared to previous generations. High frequency memory performance significantly improves encoding, gaming and benchmarking tasks.

The biggest leap in Intel's Haswell processor is the onboard graphics which is now up to 2.6x faster than previous HD4600 found in the Ivybridge CPU. What this means is these latest processors can actually play the latest games in HD with low/medium settings applied. Of course if you want to experience True HD gaming at maximum details then a dedicated graphics card is still a must.

The price on the 5930k is pretty incredible to be honest, a near good £50 saving. :)

Those discounted k series 1150 prices are where they should be really. The ~£200 market price for an i5 is a little obscene.

That is the regular price, and so far over 10,000 units sold.

Intel are merely offering this promotion simply because Skylake is in huge shortage.

Once Skylake is available again (November) these prices go back up to regular levels on November 2nd as already mentioned in the OP.

Oldest trick in the book. Up your prices to push people away then suddenly drop the prices back to what they should be and exclaim how cheap they are.

From what I heard the Skylake shortage was a deliberate move by Intel.

You heard from where? People elsewhere on the internet speculating?

Intel never 'upped' the price for these CPU's. They've had the same price nearly the entire time since release of Haswell. This is a legitimate but only temporary discount.

Not everything is a conspiracy, sheesh.

When it comes to Intel everything is a conspiracy.

This is not entirely untrue in the sense that my current cpu the i5 4670K has actually gone up in price since I bought it more than 2 years ago,
usually electronics go down in price significantly after the first year.

skylake i7 quad cores costing more than the enthusiast platform cpus that released not all that long ago is absolutely ridiculous

Haswell CPUs were incredibly expensive compared to their refresh counterparts from when I was looking at them (couple of months ago), even on the second hand market, really.

Maybe you struck on a great deal on your 4670k, but it hasn't changed otherwise.

And maybe you haven't paid close attention, but CPU's generally dont drop in price like some other products do. They merely get phased out.

4790k was £280.00 on release. Now 6700k, that is the definition of expensive.

Someone's being robbed, either retailers are or customers are.

I can get a 6700k locally for $370 (£240), a quick browse of ocUK shows them at £389 ($600).

You could probably import one for less then UK retailer pricing.

Yep, shockingly high. I considered skylake but after seeing the price i opted for an X99 setup instead.

US prices on hardware are, and always have been massively lower.

Typically something that costs $100 tends to cost £100 (though a touch more in this case)

Withholding stock and the usual insane USD > GBP conversion. Intel will find two fingers from me and i will hold onto my 4700k 4.3 for 4 years yet minimum. All my money is going on Pascal/HDD.

Saying this also they are not backporting NVMe support either to Z87 again another two fingers to them.

I thought that must have been a mistake but just checked the pricing, can't believe how badly priced Skylake is, for an extra 30 odd pound you can pick up an 5930K

This is what happens to the market when there is no competition. Intel have the fastest product, so they have no need to make a faster one. They'll just keep shuffling the prices and changing the model numbers to make people bite.

Or try to..

People are wise now. I see more people upgrading X58 machines to Xeons than people buying new stuff. What's the point? I just bought an Alienware brand new with a CPU that's also pretty much brand new (5820k) and it's no faster than my old 3970x which was basically a 3930k with more cache and that was released in 2011.

So expect a lot of juggling from Intel. They now need to try and forge a market alone and that's not an easy thing to do. Why would people swap out their CPU board and ram with something practically identical?

They've had their fun beating AMD but now comes the time where their stuff really is a hard sell. Making fun of how much a 2600k beats a 8320 is old hat now and they no longer have any products to tempt people with because people have already bought from them.

Exactly the same thing will happen to Nvidia if AMD die in the GPU sector. They will have no one to take the wee out of and there won't be any bragging rights for the spiteful people that love to gloat (see above in this very thread) so Nvidia's sales will die on their back end.

"Hey every one, I just bought a new Nvidia GPU that's better than the Nvidia GPU I already have !"

No wee taking, no threads of doom.. It'll all be over.

Im in the market for a i5 4690k but its been as low as £145 from elsewhere only last month which i missed out on. As i wasnt in the market then so i dunno how £169 is a bargain
