Hi all, quick question - I've just bought a new Intel i5 chip which has come with their standard heatsink/cooler (it says E9378-001 on the top), but upon removing my previous CPU I've noticed the old Intel cooler (it says D60188-001 on it) will also fit even though the heatsink part is larger and has more fins....

Anybody got any opinions on which I should use? Tempted to use the newer one (just because it's newer!) but surely a bigger cooler with more fins on the heatsink will theoretically keep it cooler??

Hahah might try a little experiment. Anyway, didn't have any thermal paste to hand and the new one came with the paste already applied (I assume
It was paste? Little semicircles of grey stuff on the bottom of the heatsink??) so I'm just trying that for now. Might well try the other once I get some paste. It's idling at around 30/40°C according to the BIOS....

Oh, looks like they're both copper btw....

Cool, cheers!

I think I need to get some new case fans too.... Mine are great, huge and whisper quiet, but run off molex plugs and have a little switch for speed instead of motherboard connectors so I can't monitor/change fan speed from software... Is this advised over the 'set it and forget it' method??
