Looking into the intel e5200 hoping to oc to above 3ghz if possible. I've been out of the game for a while, so I'm not fully up to speed.

Question, have times moved on such that the stock cooler with these chips are good and silent?

Or should I still accompany it with the Scythe Ninja II?

Also, are these chips easy to oc?

It will be by no means silent, and if you have a Ninja to hand then use it! If you don't, I heartily recommend the Akasa AK965; cheap, easy to fit good performance and very quiet at low speeds (which is all it needs except when benching). There is absolutely no reason that the 5200 won't hit 3Ghz, and frankly most should go considerably further.

The skinny stock ALu E5200 HSF is a bit whinny when running at full load but if you have some kinda fan control on the motherboard (i.e Q-Fan) then the stock HSF is indeed silent . . . however once running in silent mode it's capacity to cool is greatly diminished . . .

E5200 @ 2500MHz with Retail HSF, Full IBT Load = 51°C

E5200 @ 2500MHz with Retail HSF/Q-Fan, Full IBT Load = 62°C

E5200 @ 3000MHz with Retail HSF/Q-Fan, Full IBT Load = 65°C

should do 3GHz np

i would suggest familiarising yourself with everything bios wise and asking on here once you get stuck

what would the main use be?
