Just been told and this is a direct copy and paste from the chat window.

I was talking about an error code on my motherboared and was asking if the 2500k could cause such an error. after woulds he said no. but then asked what memory i was using.

So i told him i was using corasair vengance 1600mhz, and he replied with.

You should also replace your memory, this processor is designed for 1333MHz memory at 1.5v. 1600MHz memory will damage the processor.

He then said.

Currently none of the Intel(R) processors is designed to use 1600MHz or voltages higher than 1.5v

I then said what not even the 2600k with hyperthreading or the 990x or the xeons.

he then said

No, none of are CPU products should be used with 1600MHz memory. They should all be used with 1333MHz memory at 1.5v.

So has anybody ever heard this?

I have never heard anything about only using 133mhz memory on intel chips.

lol, it's always been the same tbh. People run their memory at higher speeds than the platform is rated for.

Running at 1600Mhz and 1.5v is not going to damage your chip in the slightest. Infact IvyBridge which is the next version of SandyBridge will officially support 1600Mhz out of the box. That gives you a clue that 1600Mhz clearly isn't going to 'damage' the existing SB chips, that and the fact just about every enthusiast is running 1600Mhz or higher on their sandybridge platform without any issues at all.
