Intel Turbo Boost Prob

Okay. When I first got my PC a couple of weeks ago, the turbo boost worked fine. The i5 would idle at about 1.16GHz, then go to 3.7GHz under load.
But since overclocking the CPU to 4.0GHz, the cpu stays at 4.0GHz (checked with CPUz and Asus AI Suite II) all the time, despite the turbo boost being enabled in the BIOS.
Any ideas why this might be happening?

What did you touch in the bios to overclock? many of the guides to overclocking suggest tinkering with the C1E, C3 and C6 settings which relate to CPU power management and speedstep.

All I changed was the multiplier, set the DRAM timings and voltage to the manufacturers settings and set the vcore to manual to make the OC stable. Could it be the vcore? If it is set to manual , does that mean it can't run at the lower value?

hi,

Sorry to hijack the thread, but i got the i5 OC to 4Ghz bundle (with the Asus P7P55D-E mobo) back in Nov of last year and i have the same problem. the CPU is constantly running at 4Ghz. I thought it ran at stock until the CPU was put under load conditions then it kicked in the OC. I've definatly not touched anything in the BIOS (not even opened it up).

Just wondering if there is anything in the BIOS i should be looking for to get the Turbo facility to work correctly, and will the rig constantly being in the 4Ghz OC mode do the rig any damage in the long run.

I've checked the temps on OCCT with the warm weather and it's idleing around 45c and ramping to to 75-80c under load pretty quickly, admittedly in a pretty warm room with not a lot of space surrounding the rig.
