Intel V AMD now?

been out of the CPU loop for a couple of years - the last i had was seen was a P4 v S939 so you can see i'm well out of it!

i've built an Athlon 2 quad core and its at 3.3ghz on a stock cooler.

i'm thinkig of building an intel PC just for the hell of it and it seems to be an I3 is the best intel budget - is this right but these are only dual core?

They are only dual core yes. The i3 530 can easily hit 4.2 GHz though with a little overclocking. Nice bang for your buck.

what's the difference in cores though - are 4 cores worth so much more or will a nice little dual core setup be ok?

just allround use mainly. Net/word processing/spreadsheets etc but mainly internet so media playing - music/video etc. nothing too strenuous and i admit it's probably overkill as my S939 manages all that fine and more lol.

Games - not played one for years although i did used to be heavily into CS:S. Used to be....
