Ok, last Intel CPU I owned was a slot based Celeron, so I am a bit out of touch. With Conroe in mind, is there any advantage in buying an actual Intel board over a 3rd party Intel chipset based one?

I always hear that Intel based chipsets are very stable. I can't disagree as I've owned two systems with Intel 875P and 865G chipsets and they run flawlessly. The intel chipsets also tend to allow higher overclocks while maintaining stability. I have built a system using a Via chipset on intel, and it didn't clock very well.

With that in mind the Via chipsets aren't in the same league as the Intel chipsets.

He's asking about actual Intel boards such as the badaxe, compared to say the DFI Infinity with intel chipset.

The upcoming ATI RD600 chipset which supports Conroe processors is supposed to be the daddy of all chipsets.

More info here.
That does look mightily impressive, any idea when its release date is?
