Intel X48 coming - slightly faster than X38

Rumors have started circulating about a chipset called X48 from Intel. It is supposedly an even better and faster chipset than X38. Intel X38 has been rumored to be God's gift to the overclocker, and X48 is suppose to be even better. While we can't confirm the "God's gift to overclockers" part (yet), X48 is indeed real and coming a few weeks after X38. It will be even faster and offer even better overclocking than X38. Until then we have to settle for X38, which should start appearing this week if we're lucky. Several people are expecting samples from different motherboard manufacturers soon so we should see benchmarks in the community quite soon. Don't let the 4 in the name fool you, Intel changes name schedules quite frequently nowadays.

hmmm me thinks this could be Intel gearing up to meet a new chipset to replace the 680i from Nvidia. Maybe the x38 wont be able to "out bench" the new 680i ( 780i just a guess) replacement...just a thought!

I have been looking at this chipset..
i think i will hang on to my P35 DS4 until the X48 comes out.

I'm really not convinced at all.
Unless there was a major chip revision happening at the same time then there is no need to be replacing a chipset that quickly.
Intel have never been a company to replace one product with another before the first of those two even exists...X38 isn't available yet, so it would seem highly unlikely they are already gearing up for X48.

Personally I'm not actually convinced that X38 is going to offer all that more over the P35 chipset - nothing more than a newer revision of the same chipset could probably achieve, but there, that's just my opinion.

To the poster above...where have you been reading all about the X48 and what is it going to offer that the P35/X38 chipset doesn't/won't?
It seems unlikely that we're ready for another ICH update and the X38 is offering the two fast PCI/e lanes.

stoofa i just googled " X48 from Intel " its mainly chinky sites
but to me the P38 will just bring in 16x16 PCI-E then the X48 will bring in the
overclocking stuff for the new chips that intel are shipping soon.

Also i think they want(for some reason) to hammer the final nail in AMDs coffin
And AMDs top sales guy left AMD the other day.

Apart from the extras that these new X38/48 chipset offers which probally wont even be taking advantage off till a bit later on these dont really offer much over the P35 Chipset boards.

Sure they might be better for overclocking but what i have seen of the P35 boards, the actuall CPU has been the limiting factor not the motherboard itself.

These will need to sell at a very good price for them to actually become worthwhile buying if you ask me.

I eat a Chinky every Sat night, dont think they care, nor do I if I'm called a Scot, Scotty or Jock, its only the other 2 asian places that cry out in last 10-15years of crappy political correctness ;).

I've actually spoken with my fiancee about it and she's advised me that it's not nearly as much of a racist term here as it is in North America. In Canada, using that term is no different than using the n word.

So, sorry to go off track here again... but I do apologise for being a stupid Canadian -lol-
I just assumed the term here had the same impact as it does where I'm from.

:)

Just a quick point here guys the x38 is not replacing the p35 and the x48 is not replacing the x38.
just like the nvidia 680i does not replace the 650..phew back on topick. :D

sounds like intel just trying to milk some more cash from the hardcore brigade who will pay extra for a speed binned chipset.

then again maybe intel know upcoming AMD archs are faster than we initially anticipated and this is their counter measure for now.
