Intel is now on the third generation of Xeon E3-1200 microprocessors for single-socket servers and workstations. The third generation, or "E3-1200 v3", was launched last year, and it has been on the market for more than 16 months. In the duration of the next 18 months, the company is going to introduce two more generations of Xeon E3 products. Dubbed as E3-1200 v4 and E3-1200 v5, the future Xeons will be based on Broadwell and Skylake architectures, and boast improved CPU efficiency, better graphics, as well as support for DDR4 memory and larger RAM size.
Xeon E3-1200 v4 series will be available sometime in the middle of 2015
up to 4 Hyper-Threaded CPU cores, and up to GT3 graphics with 128 MB of embedded DRAM
