Hey guys, sounds like a weird question but I am trying to utilize an old server to replace a desktop which seriously lacks ram, I have no budget to spend at all, this server wasn't in use but has almost 4 x the RAM of the PC I am trying to replace.

The server has a Xeon E5502 @ 1.86ghz and 7GB DDR3, the PC has a Pentium E5300 @ 2.60ghz and 2GB DDR2

Will there be a difference in performance? It seems like the pentium would be faster as both are dual core and the Pentium has a higher clock, but I'm unsure how Server cpu's compare to them. :P

Eeep help!? :D

That pentium is Core2 while the xeon is the following gen Nehalem, which would equate 1.8ghz to an roughly ~2-2.1ghz core2 performance, and has double the cache. What's the use for? If it's as a general pc, office/browser, there wont be much between them usage wise.

Not completely certain, but I think that the Xeon should be more reliable, and should allow for greater overclocking, while the Pentium should just beat it at stock. The Xeon might also use less power.
