Looking at a Xeon rig for Hyper-V and hopefully ESXi off a USB boot. Wanting to get more into 2012 R2, Linux for ntp stuff and from a personal aspect pfdefense firewall.
Spec I've pulled together at present is the following, it's a bare bones upgrade for my current Q9650 rig
Intel Xeon E5-2620v2 2.10GHz 6-Core with Hyperthreading & Turbo (Socket 2011) - Retail Intel Xeon E5-2620v2 2.10GHz 6-Core with Hyperthreading & Turbo (Socket 2011) - Retail £319.99

A number of existing items will be used such as SanDisk SSD for O/S and 1TB Samsung HDDs in a mirror config until I looking at a QNAP NAS. Other additions in due course will be a Cisco / HP Procurve switch off eBay or something, ideally layer 3 etc.
Other items to be used from existing rig:
CoolerMaster Silenco case
Corsair 520W PSU
Ati Radeon HD5870 card, but leaning more towards selling this and getting a silent ATi card.
HP 2015w monitor, but plan to replace this with 2 x 24" Ilyama units - when - poss 2015 TBH
My other thought is to order a water cooling CPU HS from Antec/Corsair etc.
I'll not be overclocking anything and don't play games these days.
Windows 8.1 Pro
Hyper-V
Office 2013
iTunes
That's pretty much it.
Also got a work laptop with VMware Workstation installed.
Moving home, so it's kicked off a bit of a "why have I got this" etc.
