What is Xeon i've heard it's to do with servers can it be used for a desktop? Is it powerful with two CPU's and all that RAM? I just want to learn about it can anyone give me some help?

They are for servers. Though some can be used on normal motherboards like the one I have in my pc. They run on a lower voltage and it is said they are cut from the middle of the wafer or something :p Mine is basically a E8400 on lower voltage I think :p It's probably not worth getting one over a E8400, but I like to be different and special and all rofl :D

Anyway: Xeon wikipedia page

Xeons are just Intel's server CPUs, like Core 2 are Intel's desktop consumer level CPUs.

Some say that the prefetchers in Xeons are tuned more towards server applications, making them slower at desktop applications, but this has not been confirmed AFAIK.

Usually there isn't much of a difference between Intel's current desktop line and their Xeon line in terms of specs, but most Xeons use socket 771 so aren't compatible with desktops.

Like Vir, I also have a socket 775 Xeon - it's basically a Q9450. Bought it because they supposedly overclock better and I wanted something a little different, but meh, the difference is neglible IMO.

Here in the Netherlands the ask for a E8400 was so big I would have to wait like 2 / 3 weeks to get one so for 10 euro's more I could get a E3110 directly ;) Why not...
