In theory, yes but it aint exactly like that.
In a way a first from an arts type subject is harder than from a scienc/engineering subject.

In science and engineering success is determined by getting the correct answer, usually (e.g. the correct result from applying some mathematical equations). This doesn't require the originality and broad scope of knowledge I was talking about. In arts subjects the basic answer is easy, its how you argue it and what more you can say about it that is important.

I did a Joint degree with an Arts and humanties as well as a Science and Engineerig subject, so I have insights from both sides. But then the science subject was really good at making you think, and dare I say it, use intelligence to work out the solution.

Fair enough: you don't seem that bright. :)

Really? i guess my post is the yardstick for measuring how bright someone is? Your opinion and i guess you are entitled to it but i think you are wrong.

Well of course you do. I don't know anyone who actively admits to being not-so-sharp.

Why would anyone wanna admit they aint sharp? When one can argue that everyone is bright in one way or the other.....You wanna come across like someone who can tell who is bright or not , yet it would appear you cant grasp the concept. Perhaps you should read this thread an make a positive contribution instead of playing a critic....

No doubt you've got me completely figured out. But as you mentioned, I'm perfectly entitled to my opinion.

Are you gonna contribute properly or is that too much for you to deal with?

Calm down, calm down........

D.P., I think that your arguements are clear and lucid and show an application of thought to the matter under discussion. They show an active, intelligent use of the english language.

ElRazur has shown intelligence in asking the question in the first place and shows an interest in other peoples' opinions. (At least until the sniping, anyway)

From my experience, I know a lovely girl with a 2:1. She is bright, keen, pretty and jobless. She fails at every interview as she gets so nervous, but from experience, I know her to be very intelligent. So are the people interviewing her less intelligent as they cannot get past her nervousness?

I also know an Oxford don who has writted books on his subject but is totally incapable of anything practical about the house. Does this make him stupid? His daughter is also an intelligent soul and completely lacking in common sense. What does this make her?

I used to be able to tackle all sorts of problems, think laterally and was known for keeping a cool head in an emergency. But this was before my major mental collapse, leaving me almost incapable of logical thought right now. (It may just be the medication and the fact that it's past my bed time) Does this make me stupid?.............Don't answer that!!

So being able to drive and use a mouse are signs of intelligence?

Absolutely - just another form of intelligence.
My Brother In Law can give you detailed facts about the Napoleonic Wars but his brain can't work out which way to turn the wheel when he reverses. Likewise with a mouse, he can't visualise his hand movements with the pointer on the screen. Intelligence would make you realise that turning the wheel that way makes the car go that way.

No intention of contrubuting much more. Just wanted you to know my opinion. :)

No surprised there! And here is mine - You dont wanna know :)

Come back when you got something real good to say...

Intelligence to me is the speed at which you learn new things or grasp concepts.

While i see where you are coming from, will it be safe to say a computer is inteligent because it can learn overtime?
