Intelligent CD/DVD Writing/backup software?

I have a mountain of data I need to backup.

Obviously, I want to use every single Kb of space on a 4.7gb DVD.

Is there such a programme which I can tell it the files I need backing up and it will arrange the files so that just the right amount of files are placed on the disc to cover the 4.7gb rather than myself randomly adding and removing files from the disc as im a few Mb over/under.

Hope someone can make sense of that.

i think nero backitup will span disks if the compilation is too big for one? i haven't used it so i have no idea how efficient it is....
