Intel's 2014 line-up: It's looking good for enthusiasts (bit-tech)

Intel really seem to be making an effort to get back in the good graces of the overclocking community, I for one applaud their efforts.

If the Pentium retails for current Pentium prices - ie around £80-100, but you can add 500-1000MHz to the clock speed, this could potentially match the performance of a Core i5

That's still a big "if", however if it turns out to be accurate then we may have a new bang/buck champion on our hands.

Not if you need £70+ Z series motherboards though. Intel were not making any effort for the overclocking community recently when they fixed the loop hole in B85 motherboards, which otherwise could be used to overclock K series CPUs without any problems.

In the past the Core i3 530,G6950 and other Intel budget CPUs could be overclocked on sub £60 motherboards.

We need £50 to £60 budget overclocking motherboards again - we had that for a short period with the B85 motherboards until Intel fixed that.

Even £80 to £100 is not as cheap as it sounds though - the Core i3 530 could be had for that price or less years ago,and it means the Pentium is Core i3 money. It means we have gone backwards again,as Intel have disabled HT. Intel should be offering us a Core i3 K series CPU for that kind of money. But they won't us it would mean the Core i5 series sales would be affected, just like when people used overclocked Core i3 530 CPUs as a much cheaper alternative to the Core i5 750 and 760.

That is one thing I don't get, where did that article get that price range from, as currant Haswell pentiums range from £42 to £67.
