DigiTimes reports that Intel's prepping a new Core 2 CPU for the sub-$150 market, the Core 2 Duo E4300. The E4300 runs at 1.8GHz with a 2MB L2 cache and an 800MHz FSB, and according to DigiTimes sources will be priced at $163. To coincide with the new CPU release Intel also plans to slash prices on the Pentium D 925 and 915, while Pentium 4 prices will be reduced in advance of the debut of Intel's single-core Conroe-L CPU:

The Conroe-L will initially come in three models–E1060, E1040 and E1020–with respective core speed of 1.8GHz, 1.6GHz and 1.4GHz, indicated the makers. Specifications for the Celeron 400 have not been released, but the series will feature 512KB L2 cache and a 533MHz FSB, the makers added.

In addition, Intel is aiming for sales of the Core 2 Duo line to contribute almost 50% to its total desktop CPU shipments by the second quarter of 2007, while the Pentium D series should account for 24% followed by the Pentium line at 10%. The remaining 16% of sales will come from the Pentium 4 and Celeron D CPU lines, the makers noted.

looks like intel will soon corner the market.

i bet the success of Core2 Duo has taken many by storm lol.
And what success is that, amongst the enthusiast market that makes up a tiny percentage of global sales maybe. Does Intel have a greater share of the comercial market than before it launched Conroe, im not so sure.
And as Hades has already indicated, some of the technology may be new but its based on an old idea.

Old design or not if it works, use it.

New chips always take a few years to conquer global sales let alone a few months so Intel (I think) won't find the impact of releasing Core 2 Duo just yet until it's a fully established name to those other than enthusiasts.

But Intel is the worlds number 1 and already has a massive market share, thats like saying that Chelski will need a couple of seasons to make an impact due to a few new signings.
The fact that Intel is having to respond to AMD even with conroe out is enough to do a Roger Moore.
