Intensive Driving Courses?

I've been trying to get my boyfriend to drive for the last 3 years but for various reasons he has never actually started. Now he is finishing uni and has realised that he will almost certainly need to be able to drive once he's out into the real world.
It would be useful if he can learn quickly, so an intensive driving course would be ideal. I don't know anything about instructors at all, as my grandfather taught me before he died and all of our friends learned before they came to uni.

Where should we start looking for a decent intensive course? Is it worth arranging a theory test on our own now? We are in South-West Edinburgh at the moment, but have parents in Perth and Fife (Dunfermline/Glenrothes) so he could get to something there easily if it was better than anything offered close to home.

Thanks for any advice,

Siobhan xx

I didn't ask for opinions on how "safe" an intensive course is, I asked for people to point me in the direction of driving instructors.

Myers Driving School 44, Masterton Road,
Dunfermline,
Fife

taught me to drive ten years ago and i've been putting people their way ever since and hear nothing but good things back,

John myers is a great guy and has a great way of teaching and if you cant get John ask if Ian marshall is still working for him

A theory test pass lasts for two years if i remember, and if you don't pass your test in that time then you can sit it again.
Just grab a book/DVD and book the test online when he's confident. It's not a big deal if you go over the material beforehand and have some idea what the hazard perception section is about.

Booking his theory now would probably spur him into action to get lessons.
I'm not actually sure about driving instructors as I'm being taught by a friend of the family.
If you can I'd get his test in Kirkcaldy, big wide roads, not any hard roundabouts etc rather than Dunfermline.

Can't really suggest any instructors as I live at the other end of the island, but I would suggest that he get as much time on the road as possible, outside of lessons, if possible.

Experience from time spent on the road is priceless in my opinion.
